Director’s Statement
“When I came across
the breathtaking blogs from these three young, fearless women for the very
first time six years ago, I was immediately hocked by their strength and
courage. Through their blogs I learned about their daily struggle, their
fears and hopes and their outstanding, peacefulfight for a political change
in their authoritarian countries. I also learned how much courage it takes in
Cuba, China and Iran to make use of one of our basic human rights, the
freedom of expression. Yoani Sánchez, ZengJinyan and Farnaz Seifi are facing
harsh repressions, intimidations and even acts of violence from their
governments because they dare to brake down the wall of silence. It showed me
that when people loose fear, they become a real threat to regimes that base their
power on control, intimidation and violence.
I definitely wanted
to find out more about these courageous voices who dare to speak up, risking
their lives hereby – that’s how the dangerous and difficult journey of
FORBIDDEN VOICES started.” – Barbara Miller
